Iowa Welcomes Managed Care

On April 1, 2016, Iowa’s management of our Medicaid system will officially be turned over to three Managed Care Organizations. Like all Health Care providers in Iowa, Community Support Advocates has spent the last 12 months working diligently to understand what this transition will mean to our organization and to the people we support.

The three Companies that will take over the management of Iowa’s Medicaid system April 1 are AmeriGroup, AmeriHealth Caritas, and United Health Care. These Managed Care Organizations were announced in late August, and since that time we have worked hard to develop relationships with key individuals within each organization. What we have learned is that each of these Managed Care Organizations have hired some great people who are working hard to make this transition smooth for our members. It is critical that this transition go smoothly because our members, like all of the 560,000 Iowans utilizing Medicaid, deserve to have seamless access to the Medical, Behavioral Health, and Social Support Services they require.

We know that this transition can be extremely confusing and scary for members and families. We have heard from our member’s families that they are very concerned about how this transition will impact their loved one’s care.

If you have a family member who is receiving services from CSA and you have questions or concerns about how their support will be impacted by Iowa’s transition to Managed Care, please join us for a Community Conversation. We invite you to come talk about your questions or concerns about Managed Care on Tuesday, March 29th at 6pm at the Community Support Advocates office at 6000 Aurora Avenue, Suite B, in Des Moines.
