New MOMENTUM Art Studio Needs Your Vote
New Momentum Art Studio for individuals with disabilities asks for your vote April 12 – May 12
Community Support Advocates’ USA TODAY Network “A Community Thrives” video submission requires votes to win grant support for a new art studio planned in Mainframe Studios
Des Moines, Iowa (April 10, 2017) – Community Support Advocates (CSA) is planning a new art studio for individuals with disabilities. It’s launching a Momentum Art Studio fundraising campaign by participating in USA TODAY’s “A Community Thrives” video competition, which asks for public votes April 12 to May 12.
Having success using art as a powerful tool in building resiliency for their clients, CSA’s Momentum Art Studio will allow the nonprofit to expand creative programs that facilitate growth and recovery for those with mental illness, brain injuries, intellectual disabilities and other developmental impairments. The studio will be among the first phase of artist workspaces debuting this summer at Mainframe Studios, where Momentum Art Studio participants are immersed in a community of over 60 artists, including painters, illustrators, ceramicists, photographers, clothing designers and many others.
CSA submitted its 3-minute video to USA TODAY Network’s “A Community Thrives” grant contest in the Arts & Culture category. The top three in each category receiving grants up to $100,000 each. The public can vote for CSA’s Momentum Art Studio online at act.usatoday.com from through May 12.
“With Momentum Art Studio, we will provide a space where artists with disabilities can have a safe space to create, with access to free equipment and supplies, teaching, mentorship, and inspiration without fear of judgement. We want to give them a community within the premier creative space of Mainframe Studios,” Christina Smith, Executive Director of Community Support Advocates, said about the initiative.

Mainframe Studios is a 501(c)3 non-profit with a mission to provide permanent affordable workspace to artists of all disciplines. Its vision is to transform Central Iowa’s art scene by creating a financially self-sustaining economic and cultural driver, serving as a new national model that stands the test of time.
