PRESS RELEASE: “Works of Growth and Recovery,” an Exhibition Featuring Iowa Artists with Mental Illness or Disability, Opens Oct. 6
Presented by Community Support Advocates’ Momentum Art Program, the juried show opens October 6, 2023, from 5-8 PM at Mainframe Studios in Des Moines
Des Moines, Iowa (September 19, 2023) – Community Support Advocates’ Momentum Arts Program presents an opening reception for its 19th annual community art experience titled “Works of Growth and Recovery” on October 6 from 5-8 p.m. It’s happening during First Friday festivities at Mainframe Studios located at 900 Keosauqua Way in downtown Des Moines.
Juried by artist Jill Wells, the exhibition will feature artwork by 34 emerging local artists living with mental illness or disability. Wells stated that she agreed to being this year’s juror “because when art speaks, it is an honor and privilege to receive the message. The Momentum artists are speaking volumes.”
Free and open to the public, guests will also enjoy opportunity to create their own art and view “Projected Perspectives,” a video experience on mental illness presented by Jonathan Dwight Photography.
“Works of Growth and Recovery” is created by Momentum Arts, a program of Community Support Advocates (CSA). CSA is a nonprofit supporting over 2000 individuals and families annually by connecting them with services that support day to day living, community integration, and creative expression. Their Momentum Arts program is located within Mainframe Studios and offers free access to workshops, art supplies and studio space.
The “Works of Growth and Recovery” exhibit will be on display through mid-October at Mainframe Studios, which is open daily.
