  • Self-guided tours: Visit designated stations through out the building for visiting staff and getting to know our many community-centered programs.
  • Hands of Hope: A community art installation presented by Team CSA’s Momentum Arts.

FEATURES OF OUR NEW LOCATION

Our new Integrated Behavioral Health Clinic: Adds mental health treatment with art and play therapy options, psychiatric assessments, and medication management.

[In need? Our Clinic is open now. Anyone in need is encouraged to contact them by calling 515-883-1776, or sending an email to clinical@teamcsa.org.]

Our new location will also feature: 1) An accessible tech center for educational trainings, collaborative events, and community gatherings; 2) An At-Tain Out of the Box community library; 3) Self-care room for meditation, movement, nursing, and more; 4) An interactive sensory tactile wall; and 5) A gallery and art-filled spaces that engages our award-winning Momentum Arts program to inspire a sense of community and belonging.

THE IMPACT OF OUR NEW LOCATION

  1. Decreases wait times – Team CSA’s Clinic is expected to serve 200 individuals and families in its first year, and over 450 annually thereafter.
  2. Increases employment – We are hiring five full-time therapists, two psychiatric providers and a nurse coordinator.
  3. Improves access – Our new location is centrally located, right of I-235 and near multiple bus lines.
  4. Works in partnership  The clinic enables Candeo to open an intensive residential service home, and houses Mercy’s Community Psych Residency Program.
  5. Advances academic engagement  Our clinicians and staff mentor medical students and psychiatric residents to promote post graduate practice in public health (which has already proven successful).
  6. Increases capacity –
    • Existing clients now have improved convenience and whole-person care while accessing their existing services through the same provider.
    • Enables additional programs, including providing public schools with dedicated counselors.
    • Enables Team CSA to implement the state’s first Outpatient Competency Restoration program providing mental health support and substance abuse services for individuals awaiting trial.
    • With our improved technology, Telehealth options for rural residents are now possible.

WHO WE ARE

Community Support Advocates (Team CSA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit creating hope together with those impacted by disabilities, mental illness, and traumatic brain injury. We serve Iowa’s most vulnerable individuals, and their families, by providing comprehensive services and coordinated care that support day to day living, community integration, and creative expression. Our culture of welcoming and belonging prioritizes growth and resiliency within our community.

As a designated public health safety-net provider, Team CSA is relied upon to play a critical role in providing access to programs and services for those who fall outside the market, primarily members of the area’s poorest and most disadvantaged groups. We serve all ages and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds for as long as help is needed, which can be a lifetime. There is no wrong door for accessing help. Part of Team CSA’s core work includes “wrap-around” services (e.g., language interpretation, transportation, housing assistance, nutrition, and vocational support) specifically targeted to the needs of vulnerable populations. We specialize in connecting individuals and families with appropriate support services and clinical treatment options; transitioning individuals from youth to adult services; and engaging the power of art to build connections, self-esteem, and purpose.

RESPONDING TO A CRISIS

It is crucial that vulnerable populations have access to personalized integrated health options that build their independence and keep them healthy, safe, and connected to community. Team CSA is leaning into its expertise to significantly advance the region’s access to mental health resources – which requires all hands on deck.

When individuals and families are experiencing a crisis, waiting 3 to 6 months for crisis stabilization services can have devastating impacts on recovery time, school and/or work status, and a family’s capacity to cope. Furthermore, hospitalization, homelessness, jail time or worse are common alternatives with broad social, emotional, and economic costs to the communities.

Mental health is a topic that pervades every facet of society, and as demand for services vastly outpaces available resources, we are seeing far-reaching consequences for youth with severe mental and intellectual disabilities who are uninsured or underinsured. Responding to the alarming increase incidences of self-harming, reporting suicidal ideation, attempting suicide, and suicide completion, Team CSA was propelled to act.

Expanding services, and expanding quickly was crucial. Team CSA’s executive team has a combined 100 years of experience leading mental health and disability services in Central Iowa. The seasoned nonprofit is uniquely qualified to address this crisis with a panoramic approach. We are writing a new chapter for our organization and for youth mental health resources in Iowa.

CREATING HOPE TOGETHER: We need your help!

Team CSA is working on numerous levels to minimize circumstances that hinder our progress in helping our community, attracting top talent, and improving our financial footing. Our operating budget does not put precedence on marketing or non-essentials. Our authentic work culture accounts for the majority of wins we have in hiring and retention. Being able to control overhead by owning our own building also helps by allowing us to develop reserve funds.

Diversifying funding sources is also crucial in our path forward!
